THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone group.
INDICATIONS
Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in adults:
- Treatment of gonococcal urethritis in men,
- Complicated and uncomplicated lower and upper urinary tract infections (including prostatitis),
- Intestinal infections,
- Step-down treatment for osteoarticular infections,
- Except for pneumococcal infections (see Warnings and Precautions), bronchial suppurations, particularly when a Gram-negative bacillus is suspected,
- In at-risk individuals (chronic alcoholics, smokers, individuals over 65, and immunocompromised patients),
- Treatment of the following ENT infections:
- Chronic sinusitis,
- Exacerbations of chronic otitis infections (of any nature) and ear cavity infections,
- Pre-operative preparation for chronic osteitic or cholesteatomatous otitis.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance, to other quinolones, or to any of the excipients (see Composition).
- Concomitant administration of ciprofloxacin and tizanidine (see Interactions).
- Due to its action on the cartilage of growing animals, ciprofloxacin is contraindicated in pregnant women, those who may be pregnant, or those who are breastfeeding.

WARNING AND PRECAUTION
- Avoid exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet radiation during treatment due to the risk of photosensitivity.
- Ciprofloxacin’s activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis may lead to negative microbiological test results.
- There is a risk of crystalluria in the presence of urine with a neutral or alkaline pH.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizures or factors that predispose them to seizures.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with myasthenia.
SIDE EFFECTS
- Digestive disorders: gastric discomfort, abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating.
- Skin manifestations: erythematous maculopapular rash; rarely: photosensitivity, vascular purpura
- Neurological manifestations: seizures, confusion, hallucinations, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, visual disturbances, insomnia.
DOSAGE
Oral route:
Ciprofloxacin tablets should be taken in two doses, morning and evening, preferably with meals.
- For adults: 2 tablets (250 mg) per dose, twice a day.
- For children and adolescents: 10 mg to 20 mg per kg of body weight, twice a day
CONSERVATION
Store away from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children and out of sight.
Do not use after the expiration date shown on the label.
