THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES :
 Phenobarbital is a barbiturate . It slows the activity of your brain and nervous system.
INDICATIONS :
 Epilepsy  For treat or prevent seizures.  short-term as a sedative to help you relax.
CONTRAINDICATION:  porphyria  suicidal thoughts  alcohol intoxication  drug abuse  depression  severe liver disease  Respiratory failure  Pregnancy and breastfeeding .

PRECAUTION AND WARNING :
 Before taking phenobarbital, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other barbiturates.
 Do not use this medicine more than 2 weeks.
SIDE EFFECTS:
 Dizziness, drowsiness, excitation, headache, tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Oral route :
Children :
– < 20kg : 5mg / kg per day.
– Between 20 – 30 kg : 3 – 4 mg / kg per day.
– > 30kg : 2 – 3 mg/kg per day.
Adult :
– 2 – 3 mg / kg per day , a single dose at bedtime.
