CEFALEXIN
COMPOSITION
Each capsule contains :
Cephalexin (INN) : ……………………………………………………………………………… 500 mg.
Excipients : q.s………………………………………………………………………………………one capsule.
THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
Antibiotic from the beta-lactam family, belonging to the first-generation cephalosporin group.
INDICATIONS
They are indicated for the following conditions:
- Respiratory infections
- ENT (ear, nose, and throat) infections
- Urinary tract infections
CONTRAINDICATIONS
This medication should not be used in the following cases:
- Allergy to antibiotics of the cephalosporin group

WARNING AND PRECAUTION
- The occurrence of any allergic reaction requires discontinuation of treatment.
- In cases of renal insufficiency, adjust the dosage based on creatinine clearance or serum creatinine levels.
- Pregnancy: The safety of cephalexin during pregnancy has not been established; however, studies conducted in several animal species have not shown teratogenic or fetotoxic effects.
- Breastfeeding: The passage of cephalexin into breast milk is low, but it is recommended to avoid the treatment if breastfeeding is to continue.
SIDE EFFECTS
– Allergic reactions : skin rashes, fever, anaphylactic shock, pruritus (itching) in the genital area, with or without candidiasis.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Oral administration. The average dosage in adults with normal renal function is:
- In adults: 2 g/24 hours, in divided doses.
- In children: 25 mg to 50 mg/kg/24 hours, on average is 250 mg to 750 mg/day, depending on age.
- In renal insufficiency:
- Creatinine clearance of 5 to 20 ml/min: the maximum dosage for adults is 1.5 g/day.
- Creatinine clearance of less than 5 ml/min: the maximum dosage for adults is 0.5 g/day.
CONSERVATION :
- Store below 30oC, avoid light and humidity.
- Keep out of reach and sight of children.
- Do not use after expiry date.
