Cimetidine-400
COMPOSITION
Each film coated tablet contains:
- Cimetidine (INN)…….……………………………………………………….……..400 mg
- Excipients : q.s.………………………………………………..…… one film coated table
THEARAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
- Cimetidine is an H2 histamine recptor antagonist.
- Cimetidine inhibits gastric acid secretion. A dose of 400mg inhibits acid secretion for about 8 hours.
INDICATION
- A progressive gastric ulcer
- Drug-induced gastro-duodenal ulcers
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- The patient has esophagitis secondary to gastroesophageal reflux.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to H1 antihistamines or any of their components.

WARNING AND PRECAUTION
Particularly monitor elderly patients, those with severe renal or hepatic insufficiency.
SIDE EFFECTS :
- There have been reports of some cases of diarrhea, muscle pain, dizziness, skin rashes, and fever.
- A transient elevation in transaminases and a slight increase in creatinine levels.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Oral administration
- Progressive gastric ulcer: 400 mg in the morning and evening for 4 to 6 weeks.
- Prevention of duodenal ulcer relapses: 400mg (one film coated tablet) daily for one year, taken in the evening at bedtime.
- For the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the dose maybe increased, if required, up to 2g per day.
CONSERVATION
- Store below 30oC, avoid light and humidity.
- Keep out of reach and sight of children.
- Do not use after expiry date.
