THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the fluoroquinolone class.
INDICATIONS
Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections:
In adults:
- Treatment of gonococcal urethritis in men
- Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (including prostatitis)
- Intestinal infections
- Step-down treatment for osteoarticular infections
- Except for pneumococcal infections (see Warnings and Precautions): bronchial suppurations, particularly when a Gram-negative bacillus is suspected
- In at-risk individuals (chronic alcoholics, smokers, those over 65 years old, immunocompromised patients)
- Treatment of the following ENT infections (500 mg tablets):
- Chronic sinusitis
- Exacerbations of chronic otitis media (of any nature), and cavities in the middle ear
- Preoperative treatment for chronic otitis media with osteitis or cholesteatomatous otitis
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance, other quinolones, or any of the excipients (see Composition).
- Concurrent administration of ciprofloxacin and tizanidine (see Interactions).
- Due to its effect on the cartilage of growing animals, ciprofloxacin is contraindicated in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, or women who are breastfeeding.

WARNING AND PRECAUTION:
- Avoid exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet radiation during treatment due to the risk of photosensitivity.
- The activity of ciprofloxacin against Mycobacterium tuberculosis may lead to negative bacteriological test results.
- There is a risk of crystalluria in the presence of urine with a neutral or alkaline pH.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizures or factors predisposing them to seizures.
- Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with myasthenia.
SIDE EFFECTS
– Digestive disorders: gastric discomfort, abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating.
– Skin manifestations: erythematous maculopapular rash; rarely, photosensitivity and vascular purpura.
– Neurological manifestations: seizures, confusion, hallucinations, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, visual disturbances, and insomnia.
DOSAGE AND ANMINISTRATION
Oral administration:
Reserved for adults
Ciprofloxacin tablets should be taken in two doses, morning and evening, preferably with meals. The usual dose is 500 mg twice daily, which may be increased to 750 mg twice daily depending on the severity.
CONSERVATION :
- Store below 30oC, avoid light and humidity.
- Keep out of reach and sight of children.
- Do not use after expiry date.
