Indications are limited to infections caused by organisms defined as sensitive (see Pharmacodynamics):

  • Curative use:
    – Documented sore throat caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.
    – Mild skin infections caused by sensitive organisms.
  • Prophylaxis:
    – Prevention of relapses of Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF).
    – Prevention of recurring erysipelas.
    – For contact persons in the vicinity of a case of scarlet fever.
    – Pneumococcal infections in splenectomized patients, major sickle cell patients, and other functionally asplenic individuals

COMPOSITIONS :

Each film coated tablet contains :

  • Phenoxymethylpenicillin potassium……………………………………… 1,000,000 IU
  • Excipients : q.s ………………………………………………………………………..one tablet

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

It is an antibiotic from the beta-lactam family, in the group of natural penicillin , specifically phenoxymethylpenicillins.

INDICATIONS

    – Documented sore throat caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.
    – Mild skin infections caused by sensitive organisms.
  • Prophylaxis:

CONTRAINDICATIONS
  • Allergy to beta-lactams (penicillins and cephalosporins).
  • Methotrexate (see Interactions).

WARNING AND PRECAUTION :

·       The occurrence of any allergic manifestation requires discontinuation of the treatment and initiation of appropriate treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS
  • Allergic reactions: Fever, hives, angioedema, and, rarely, anaphylactic shock.
  • Gastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and black tongue in case of prolonged treatment.
  • Hematological reactions (reversible): Anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, coagulation disorders.
DOSAGE
  • Curative treatment:
    The daily dosage should be divided into 2 to 3 doses for sore throats, or 3 to 4 doses for other indications.
    • Adult: 2,000,000 to 4,000,000 IU/day.
    • Infants and children up to 40 kg: 50,000 to 100,000 IU/kg/day.
    Treatment duration: For sore throats, treatment should last for 10 days.
  • Prophylaxis:
    The daily dosage should be divided into two doses.
    • Infants and children:
    • Up to 10 kg: 100,000 IU/kg/day.
    • From 10 kg to 40 kg: 50,000 IU/kg/day, without exceeding 2,000,000 IU/day.
    • Adults: 2,000,000 IU/day; prophylaxis should continue for at least 2 years after splenectomy

CONSERVATION

  • Store at a temperature below 30°C, away from light and humidity.
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children.
  • Do not use after the expiration date on the package.
