COMPOSITIONS :
Each tablet contains :
- Phenoxymethylpenicillin…………………………………….. 400,000 IU
- Excipients : q.s. ……………………………………………………..one tablet
THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
This is an antibiotic from the beta-lactam family, specifically from the natural penicillins group, of the phenoxymethylpenicillin type.
INDICATIONS
Indication are limited to infections caused by bacteria known to be sensitive to this antibiotics.
Therapeutic use :
- Documented streptococcal tonsillitis caused by Group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus
- Mild skin infections caused by sensitive organisms
Prophylactic use :
- Prevention of recurrent rheumatic fever (RRF)
- Prevention of recurrent erysipelas
- In close contracts of individuals with scarlet fever
- Pneumococcal infection prevention in idividuals who are :
- Splenectomized
- Sickle cell patients
- Other functionally asplenic individuals
CONTREAINDICATIONS
- Allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics (Penicillins and cephalosporins)
- Concomitant use of methotrexate

PRECEUTION
- The appearance of any allergic reaction required immediate discontinuation of the treatment and initiation of appropriate care.
SIDE EFFECT
– Allergic reactions : fever, hives, angioedema (Quincke’s edema), and in rare cases, anaphylactic shock
– Digestive issues : nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, black tongue with prolonged treatment
– Reversible hematologic reactions : anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopnia, and conagulation disorders.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Therapeutic Use :
Daily doses should be divided into 2-3 doses for tonsillitis, and 3-4 doses for other indications.
- Adults : 2,000,000 to 4,000,000 IU/day
- Infants and children up to 40 kg : 50,000 to 100,000 IU/kg/day
- Duration : 10 days for tonsillitis
Prophylactic Use :
Daily doses should be divided into two doses.
- Infants and children :
- Up to 10kg : 100,000 IU/kg/day
- From 10kg to 40kg : 50,000 IU/kg/day (not to exceed 2,000,000 IU/day)
- Adults : 2,000,000 IU/day
- Duration : Prophylaxis should continue for at least 2 years after splenectomy
