COMPOSITION

Each 5 ml contains :

– Promethazine HCl………………………….. 3.6 mg

– Codeine phosphate…………………………….9 mg

– Excipients : q.s…………………………………..5 ml

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

Codeine: An opium alkaloid with centrally acting antitussive properties; depresses the respiratory centers.
Promethazine: An antihistamine with antitussive effects through action on central and/or peripheral H1 receptors; also has sedative and anticholinergic (atropine-like) effects.

INDICATIONS

Used for the symptomatic treatment of bothersome non-productive (dry) coughs, in the absence of currently demonstrated specific activity.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Asthmatic cough
Respiratory insufficiency of any severity
Children under 8 years of age
Preferably avoid use of codeine during the first trimester of pregnancy
As a precaution, avoid use during breastfeeding

PRECAUTION

Caution is advised for drivers and those operating machinery due to the sedative effects of the medication.
Alcohol consumption is strictly contraindicated during treatment.
Use with caution in cases of increased intracranial pressure, which may be exacerbated.

SIDE EFFECT

Adverse effects of codeine are similar to those of other opioids, but are less frequent and less severe at therapeutic doses.
May include: constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, bronchospasm, allergic skin reactions, respiratory depression.
At supratherapeutic doses: risk of dependence and withdrawal syndrome, which has been observed in users and in newborns of addicted mothers.

DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Symptomatic treatment should be short-term (a few days).
When determining the dosage, it is important to take into account other pharmaceutical forms or medications that may contain codeine or similar substances.

Adults: The average dose is 1 tablespoon in the morning and evening.
Children aged 8 to 14 years: 1 to 2 teaspoons in the morning and evening, depending on age.
